Bangladesh Secure Historic First Test Win in Australia

Bangladesh secured their first Test victory in Australia on Sunday, beating the hosts by nine wickets in Darwin after a disciplined bowling performance and a strong first-innings total. The result was a major upset against the world's top-ranked Test team and gave Bangladesh a memorable start to the series.
Chasing only 57 runs for victory, Bangladesh reached the target at 57 for one in 14.2 overs at Marrara Oval. Mominul Haque hit the winning boundary, while Shadman Islam finished unbeaten on 25 and Haque on 30.
The victory completed a remarkable turnaround for Bangladesh, who had struggled shortly before arriving for the series. They were bowled out for only 54 against a Cricket Australia XI in a practice match in Darwin and had also suffered a heavy defeat against Zimbabwe in June.
Bangladesh had laid the foundation for the victory with their first-innings batting. After Australia were dismissed for 198, Bangladesh responded with 426, gaining a substantial advantage and putting the home side under pressure.
Tanzid Hasan played a major role in that effort, scoring 101. The Bangladesh bowlers then kept Australia from recovering as the hosts struggled to build partnerships.
Mehidy Hasan Miraz was central to Bangladesh's success throughout the match. He scored 65 in the first innings and later took five wickets in Australia's second innings, including four on the final day as Australia were dismissed for 284.
Australia resumed the fourth day at 161 for four, still 67 runs behind Bangladesh. Miraz quickly increased the pressure by having wicketkeeper Alex Carey caught behind for 30 and bowling Beau Webster for five.
He then dismissed captain Pat Cummins for eight before completing Australia's innings by trapping Nathan Lyon leg before wicket for 15. His performance left Bangladesh needing only 57 runs to claim the historic victory.
Cameron Green provided Australia's strongest resistance. The all-rounder reached his third Test century and his first in Australia, scoring 104 as he tried to keep his team in the match.
Green and Mitchell Starc added 43 runs for the eighth wicket before Starc was caught behind for 18. Green reached his century after lunch but was then dismissed when he played Hasan Mahmud's delivery onto his stumps.
Hasan Mahmud finished the match with nine wickets, adding to the impact of Bangladesh's pace attack. Australia had struggled against the bowlers from the opening day, when Mahmud took six wickets.
Bangladesh's final chase was briefly interrupted when Tanzid Hasan was dismissed without scoring, caught by Josh Hazlewood's bowling. But Shadman and Mominul remained composed and completed the chase without further damage.
The result marked the first time Bangladesh had won a Test match in Australia. The teams had previously met in Australia only once before this series, when Australia won a two-match series 2-0 in 2003.
Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto described the result as the biggest victory for his country in any format. He said the team's performance demonstrated its character and reflected the work players had put in together before the series.
Australia captain Pat Cummins said his team had struggled from the opening day. He said Australia's batters needed to spend longer at the crease and acknowledged that Bangladesh had been more disciplined across the match.
For Bangladesh, the victory represents a significant achievement after years of inconsistent Test results and a difficult build-up to the series. The team will now look to carry the momentum into the remaining matches against Australia.
